Encourage children towards dance and music: First Lady
ITANAGAR, Jan 28: First Lady of Arunachal Pradesh Anupama Singh called upon the parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards towards dance and music.
Dance and music help in developing the overall personality of a child, Singh said while attending ‘Basant Utshav’ celebration at Vivekananda Auditorium, R K Mission Hospital here this evening.

Parents Day celebrated with a message for youngsters
WAKRO, Jan 28: Students and youngsters must be cautious not to be ensnared into the lures of drug abuse or undesirable political agitation that will distract them from their primary focus on learning, said Savneet Singh, SM, Commander 82 Mountain Brigade in a message on the occasion of ‘Meeta Meet’, a programme which was organized to befit the Apna Parents’ Day celebration here today.
He said the onus of taking up issues with the government lies on the leaders and senior members of the society while adding that students should never be engaged in bandh and protest culture as many of them get misled. The message further said that social activists, community elders, teachers and parents should take greater responsibility to create awareness amongst the gullible young generation. The Army commander, however, advocated for use of judicious power to ensure rule of law instead of taking coercive measures which may force people to agitate.
Interacting with a delegation of ASSET at 82 Mountain Brigade Headquarter, Brig. Singh further assured that the Army will always support the initiatives being taken for proper education to the children and proper grooming of the young generation.
In an informal discussion with ASSET chairman, All Mishmi Students Union advisor Ajan Pul also assured to advice the students to consider other democratic means instead of resorting to bandh culture to air their grievances.
“Stay away from drug abuse and opium addition” is the theme of this year Meeta Meet 2012. The significance of the message was highlighted by Soplie Chikro (55), from Kandai village, who had first hand experience of the horrors of opium addiction. He said “opium addiction does good to none. Opium makes slaves out of you and makes you do terrible things.” He called upon one and all to fight against drug abuse. A confident Soplie has not touched the drug since past ten years and felt much contented today.

ANSU observes its 30th Foundation Day

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) today observed its 30th Foundation Day in a colourful manner here. Senior citizens of the community and its former and present executive members took part in it.
Addressing on the occasion ANSU vice president Tagru Tame who unfurled the union flag in absence of its president said that the mandate of people given to the union is not an opportunity rather responsibility to serve the society.
He further called upon the community members not to allow exploiting the term Nyishi by few individuals and vested interest group. Tame felt that the community required visionary leader for uplift of the society including its culture. He further gave emphasis on channelizing youth power in right way.
Reiterating that Pradeep Thakur/ToI issue is still alive and kicking, ANSU vice president reaffirmed to deliver justice on the vexed issue. He disclosed ANSU along with Nyishi Elite Society is working on line. It has given time frame to the state government to find out logical solution to the infamous ToI issue, he added. Union further clarified that ToI issue is not politically motivated. It vowed to intensify its agitation against government if it fails to find a solution to the issue.
ANSU General Secretary Arjun Panye in his address said the union will continue its service to its people till the community exists.

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Though from an unlikely quarter, the hydropower issue is back in the forefront.
Society for Development of Culture and Education (SDCE), a civil society group and district administration are at loggerheads over the emotive issue.
The members of SDCE claimed that district administration forced the organisation to bond sign a document restricting its activities for next three years when they were conducting awareness campaign about hydropower projects in Tawang district.
However district administration has negated the claim and alleged that SDCE members violated the terms under which they were given permission to carry out awareness campaign.

Naturally, when we talk about environment, the hydropower issue comes up. We have not violated any condition and in fact district administration has curtailed our democratic rights,” said Nima.
Further he added, “In Tawang district alone 15 projects totalling 3500 MW are coming up. Construction of large number of dams is going to have huge impact. The population of local Monpa tribe is only around 30 thousand in Tawang. The hydropower developers will bring in workforce numbering thousands from outside. We will be reduced to minority in our homeland and therefore we see it as direct threat to existence of Buddhism in Tawang.”

“During the tenure of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, many MOUs/MOAs were signed with hydropower developers without any proper and prior consent from public.
Majority of public are uneducated and therefore they did not oppose. Moreover they were under the impression that they would be financially well off once the power projects come up,” continued Nima. He went on to add, “We believe that late CM was misguided by some people regarding hydropower issue. He did not see the disadvantage of hydropower projects. Upset AAPSU questions Assam Rifles; seeks Governor’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has reacted strongly to the news report published in this daily regarding recruitment of Chakmas and Nepali citizens by Assam Rifles under ST quota of Arunachal Pradesh.
In a representation to Governor Gen JJ Singh, AAPSU has called for his intervention in this regard.
It is to be noted that Assam Rifles had recruited three Chakmas and one Nepali citizen against various posts like Armour, Clerk, Radio Operator etc which was reserved exclusively for tribal’s of Arunachal Pradesh.
Terming this move as mockery of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act and Chin Hill Act, AAPSU stated that sentiments of indigenous tribal community of Arunachal have been deeply hurt.

The whistle blower from Arunachal Pradesh was nominated for unearthing illegal appointments with fake certificates in the Tax and Excise and Arts and Cultural departments wherein a senior state minister was allegedly involved.
However, Payi Gyadi’s commendable work has put him under constant pressure including an attempt to frame him by planting weapons in his car. Constant life threat calls have forced Gyadi to hire personnel security officer since June 29, 2011.
Born on July 17, 1984 to Papu Gyadi and Nima Gyadi at village Dokre Gyadi under Gyawepurang circle in East Kameng district, Payi Gyadi did his schooling from Jawahar Navodaya Vidalaya School Seppa. An alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic College Itanagar, he founded Sango Lamte Foundation in 2009 with its prime objectives to fight against corruption and to promote computer education in the East Kameng district in particular and the state as whole.
Gyadi embarked on a crusade against corruption as RTI activist since 2010 and hit the headlines in the state after he unearthed the SSA embezzlement in East Kameng in early January, 2011. Later he brought to the fore, illegal appointments in Tax and Excise and Arts and Cultural departments, which is still subjudiced.
Gyadi was earlier featured by a leading investigative magazine Tehelka in its August 20, 2011 issue, terming him one man up against a corrupt state system.

Bandh suspended
ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Two organizations have decided to suspend its proposed 12 hours capital bandh on Jan 30 till further decision. This decision was taken following an emergency meeting had with Bamang Tago, political secretary to Chief Minister regarding the bandh call today.
Both the organizations in a joint press release said that they have reconsidered its charter of demand after the clarification made by the political secretary.
However, the organization duo said “ if at all the Govt clarification is not justified we will resort to democratic movement as deemed fit.”
Society alleges violation of prohibitory order
ITANAGAR, Jan 28: A section of people under Seijosa area are resorting to hunting of animals and birds which is a total violation of prohibitory order issued by magistrate earlier in 2010, complained Ghora Aabhe Society in a letter to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Seijosa.
It appealed to the concerned authority to strictly implement prohibitory order to save wildlife in Seijosa area.

Indefinite pen down strike from Feb 1
ITANAGAR, Jan 28: All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (AASSATA) has decided to launch indefinite pen down strike from February 1 in favour of its demands for immediate release of enhanced salary along with six months arrears and one time policy for regularization of 2003 batch teachers.
This decision was taken in a federal body meeting of the AASSATA held here today. It further threatened to continue its strike till its demands are fulfilled by the authorities.

82 percent turnout in Manipur poll
Imphal, Jan 28: An 82 per cent of the electorate today exercised their franchise in Manipur assembly elections marred by militants' violence that claimed five lives and left two injured.
Chief electoral offficer P C Lawmkunga said as per preliminary official reports, 82 per cent of the 17.40 lakh electorate cast votes but details from the nine districts in the state were yet to be received.
A CRPF man, three Village Volunteer Force personnel and a civilian were killed and two injured when miliants attacked an polling station in an interior area in Sugnu assembly constituency in Chandel district, official sources said.
However, Lawmkunga said a voter, his supporter and a security man were killed in an exchange of fire at the Dampi polling station in the district. Bombs suspected to have been planted by militants were seized and defused before the start of polling in Khurai Chingangbam area, Sawombung High School, Khomidok in Imphal East district and Naoremthong High School area in Imphal West district, official sources said.
Two CRPF personnel on poll duty were killed in an ambush by militants in Ukhrul district yesterday, the sources said.
